Costa de L’Escala.

Located between the Montgrí Illes Medes and Baix Ter Natural Park and the Cap de Creus Natural Park, diving on the coast of L’Escala is characterized by its diversity. Offering possibilities both from the boat and from the coast. Its flora and fauna characteristic of the Mediterranean and the variety of seabed and rock formations have become ideal for the initial and advanced training of thousands of divers.

El Constantine

Depth 5-10 meters. In 1963 this old French ship was being towed to a port in France where it was to be debunked. The force of the north wind broke the line that connected it to the ship that was towing it, drifting until it found the coast of L´Escala where it ran aground. Later it was dynamited and its remains can still be dived today with an easy and attractive itinerary.

La Xinxa

Depth 8-20 meters. This dive is easily recognizable by the bass that does not emerge. Start dipping down through the rock and will border from north to south quickly find ourselves with another rock that does not reach the surface. In it we find a small tunnel filled with small coral and sponges.

If we want to follow the path along the bottom, we head eastwards and gradually descend to 20 meters deep. Here we look at the small cracks appearing in the wall and with reference sand deep, circunvalaremos rock formation, returning to the home about 9 meters where rock climb having reference to that rock. Level of immersion without difficulty.

El Trencabracos

Depth 12 to 27 meters. Suitable area for the second dive of the day; suitable for all levels.

We begin by diving down the buoy to reach 15 meters deep; once in the background can choose between two paths. If you head towards the left, and for those more experienced divers, we find a tunnel a few meters from the boat to take us across the tip, Les Cambres. The tunnel is narrow in some sections but no major ramifications. Although not complicated, it is advisable to go with a guide if it is the first time through.

If we choose to follow the wall in the opposite direction, that is, to our right, we can enjoy the beautiful rock formations that harbor typical Mediterranean fauna: lobsters, eels, octopus and some other scary number.

Punta del Xeric

Depth 3-8 meters. Dive area completely sheltered from N and NW wind.

Ideal for divers diving initiation or baptism. In the days of Tramuntana, also offers the possibility to start the dive at Punta del Bau; our divers are there to enter the wall diving in Punta del Xerric where our boat will be waiting in calm waters. Fauna something scary to be near areas swimmers and walking access.

Illa Mateua

Depth 0-16 meters. Area levels of initiation or first dives season. The cove is surrounded by cliffs admirable. Amid the Illa Mateua pierced by a small underwater cave presents no difficulty (optional flashlight) rises.

In this area we have diversity of nudibranchs and polychaetes. Access by foot or boat. In summer is marked out, which prevents passage of vessels.

Diving only possible in calm waters or south winds.

La Depuradora

Depth 3-22 meters. Dive area within walking distance. Like Illa Mateua in summer is marked out by preventing the passage of vessels. Ideal for dives with inexperienced divers. It offers different courses for all levels. There is the option to go through a small tunnel full of life. Not being a very deep dive (22 meters maximum) we can contemplate virtually the entire fauna of these waters.

Parsnips, banks salps, bream and sunfish among waters. Lobsters, spark plugs and greater fork in the tunnel and a number that surprised our way and end up hiding in the rocks that fill the background. The presence of the wall that facilitates orientation and the amount of life, make this point, a very interesting night dive.

Les Cambres

Depth 5-22 meters. Suitable area for the second dive of the day; suitable for all levels.

In this area the maximum depth reaches 22 meters ideal for groups Open Water or trainees to sea. The route is simple if we do not lose sight of the right wall. Leave from 7 meters to 22 meters that reach up to the tip of Trencabraços. Back, go round the huge stone that rises to the surface through a beautiful hall where we can find some conger lurking in his hole. Now back to the boat, looking remount Creek soil between rocks octopuses and moray eels.

For the more experienced there is a tunnel on the wall a few meters boat mooring, which leads to the other side of the tip, leaving the left side of the Cala Montgo. The tunnel is narrow in some sections but no major ramifications. Although not complicated, it is advisable to go with a guide if it is the first time you cross.

Access to the area is only possible by boat.

La Punta del bau

This dive is located between the trencabraços and the Punta Xeric.
It runs along the wall, with a background of stone blocks between 12 and 20 meters deep that end in the sand. It is a dive that is usually done on Tramuntana days with advanced level divers when the boat goes to the tip of Xeric. Throughout the dive we can find moray eels, wrasses, octopuses and some lobsters hidden between the holes in the blocks. Before reaching the end of the wall and entering the Cala Montgó mouth, we find a crack at a depth of 12 meters that rises up the wall and leads to a small cave 6 meters deep that we can cross without problems. In it we can see bótolas, galateas and usually some crayfish. In the months of March to July, when the water is colder, this crevasse is populated with numerous lobsters.
Always following the wall to our right, we enter the bay of Cala Montgó where the boat moored on a buoy at Punta Xeric will be waiting for us.
